Arsenal's victory on Merseyside means they are now just four points behind third-placed Tottenham Hotspur, who are hosting Champions Manchester United later today. Liverpool at the meantime, are 10 points adrift fourth place (crucial Champions League spot)
The first half of the match saw Liverpool getting a penalty in the 18th minute. Arsenal's Szczesny came to the rescue with a sublime double save to deny Liverpool from taking the lead. However, minutes later Szczesny could do nothing when Koscielny take a swipe and scored a wonderful own goal for Liverpool. 1-0 Liverpool. Liverpool was almost 2 up when Suarez effort struck the woodwork yet again. This was Liverpool's 21st time striking the woodwork.
On the 31st minute, Bacary Sagna curled in an inviting cross and Jamie Carragher who was in for the injured Daniel Agger looked poor as he allowed Van Persie to steal in for his first ever Premier League goal at Anfield.

Again, Liverpool kept probing and searching for the winning goal. Nonetheless, the Reds were made to pay for their profligacy when, two minutes into added time, Alex Song's floated ball over the top was met by a superb left-footed volley from Van Persie for his 31st Arsenal goal of the season.
